PV in China: LDK, China Sunergy secure supplies

October 12, 2007 – Recent PV news in China finds a pair of supply deals for LDK Solar and another for China Sunergy, which also is getting ready to ramp production for new high-efficiency selective emitter cells thanks to a new tool acquisition.

LDK Solar has signed a three-year, ~$95M contract (with fixed pricing) to supply multicrystalline solar wafers to longtime customer China-based Chinalight Solar Co. Ltd. starting in 2008. The company also has signed a separate supply deal worth about $190M to supply Taiwan’s Mosel Vitelic, a five-year supply contract with fixed pricing in the first three years, also with deliveries commencing next year.

Elsewhere, China Sunergy has entered into a supply agreement with domestic polysilicon manufacturing firm Luoyang Zhonggui High-tech Co. Ltd. to supply ~106 metric tons of high-quality virgin solar-grade multicrystalline polysilicon through March 2008 (60MT in 2007, 46MT in 2008), which will support about 13MW of production for China Energy.

The deal, coupled with a 68MW long-term wafer contract signed in September, “represents a significant step towards our goal of improving the overall quality of our polysilicon and enhancing the reliability of our wafer supply,” said Allen Wang, CEO of China Sunergy, in a statement.

Meanwhile, China Sunergy also has received a new printing machine from solar tool supplier Baccini SPA at its Nanjing facilities, with which it plans to produce ~3MW of high-efficiency selective emitter cells in 4Q07, “a solid step toward large scale commercial production,” the firm stated.
