CREE INC: Recalls LED Light Fixtures Due to Laceration Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation withCree Inc., of Durham, N.C., announced a voluntary recall of 10,000LED High-Bay Luminaires.  Consumers should stop using this productunless otherwise instructed.  It is illegal to resell or attemptto resell a recalled consumer product.

eMagin Gets $6.8 Million in R&D Contracts

eMagin Corp. reported that it has been awarded three new R&D contracts totaling $6.8 million. According to a release from the company, one of the three new contracts is a $1.1M contract over 15 months to further enhance the full color brightness of its recently demonstrated ultra-high-brightness microdisplay products. Details regarding the other two contracts will be released in the near future.

Fermac Unveils New Digital Printing Machine

Fermac has launched the JET ART full digital printing machine equipped with two printing stations. According to a release, the CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) based machine includes white ink jet plus four-color CMYK ink jet printing with UV LED (ultraviolet light-emitting-diode) curing technology. The JET ART currently prints onto cylindrical parts, but it is designed to print onto any developable shape.

LED RETROFIT EXPECTED TO SAVE $690,000 A YEAR IN ENERGY COSTS FOR ROADWAY LIGHTING

CHEYENNE, Wyo., Oct. 20 -- The Wyoming Department of Transportation issued the following news release: Work is underway on a statewide project to convert all of WYDOT's roadway lighting to LED, an upgrade expected to save the department about $690,000 a year in energy costs. The upgrades being completed by Casper's Modern Electric Co. are beginning in the Casper area, and will spread across the rest of the state over the course of the coming year, ending with the retrofitting of the lighting in the Green River Tunnels on I-80 sometime next summer.
