ASML expects to sell 140 To 180 litho systems in ’02

Dutch toolmaker ASML Holding NV expects to sell between 140 and 180 lithography systems in 2002, down from 197 systems last year, ASML spokesman Tom McGuire said Friday.

The comments follow some confusion over the company’s forecast for this year after conflicting reports about its expectations, Dow Jones reported.

Dutch news service Het Financieele Dagblad reported on its Web site on Wednesday that ASML believed it would sell between 140 and 170 of its key product lithography systems this year. The paper reported that an ASML spokeswoman had given the figures in response to incorrect and higher figures published on a semiconductor industry news Web site.

ASML expects to sell 70 to 90 systems in the first half and the same amount in the second half, McGuire said.
