ASE completes acquisition of NEC packaging and test plant

This transaction was announced on February 3, 2004, and launched ASE’s strategic move into Japan. ASE Japan Co. Ltd, the official name for the Takahata operation, is expected to generate revenues of US$165 million in the next 12 months for ASE.

(June 4, 2004) Munich, Germany&#8212Freescale Semiconductor Inc., a subsidiary of Motorola Inc., has joined STMicroelectronics, Infineon Technologies and Philips to further lead-free electronics packaging. Formerly E3, the group is now called E4 (environmental 4) and focuses on accelerating the use of lead-free packages while stimulating further development of environmentally friendly package technologies.
