Microvision to showcase helmet-mounted display system

May 18, 2005 — Microvision Inc. (Nasdaq:MVIS) of Bothell, Wash., will present its latest version of its helmet-mounted, full-color display system at the Society for Information Display International Symposium in Boston in late May. Microvision, which develops scanned beam displays and imaging products, also plans to showcase its automotive head-up display system and its hands-free wearable computer with a head-worn, head-up display at the May 24-26 conference.

The helmet-mounted display system, developed under a U.S. Army contract, uses Microvision’s proprietary scanned beam technology to give pilots and mounted soldiers access to high fidelity imagery and information. The new Spectrum Display System combines improved laser technology with low profile, lightweight optics and Microvision’s MEMS-based scanned beam display technology. Microvision said the full-color display system could be ready for military production following the next phase of flight qualification and testing within the next 18 months.
